On August 9, Karl had surgery to remove a vein that had an anurism (I’m not quite sure how to spell that!). The doctor said that although it wasn’t a huge deal, it was good to get it out before it caused any problems. He got several staples to seal up the wound. 2 and a half hours later, we made it to the pharmacy and then ate tater tots and brats for dinner. “Spoiled food” is what I like to call it! He’s healed well and the scar shouldn’t be too bad. The cut wasn’t very straight, but I think it’ll look very tough and manly!
The next day, we drove out to San Antonio to stay with Brian and Liselle and visit Sea World. Brian just bought a new house, so we picked his brain about the house buying process. They both had to work Saturday, and we headed out for a day of 90+ temps and 90+ percent humidity. That plus the crowds made us very glad that we got in for free. If you’re military, you should check out the killer deals that the Anheiser Bush theme parks will give you. Karl got to see his otters and I ohhed and odded at Shamoo. Most people went to the water park, so we didn’t have to wait very long to ride the roller coasters. The famous Clydesdale horses were also on display–they are HUGE! My very favorite part was the seal show. It was better than Shamoo. They had a very theatrical murder mystery performance. The seals didn’t exactly cooperate with their cues, which made for a hilarious show. There was even an otter who had a side star performance. When the afternoon heat was almost unbearable, we went to the beer tasting class where we learned to pair certain beers with certain foods. It boils down to “Always eat cheese and beer together”. A little old lady dressed like a pirate advised us on the pairing process. Funny. It made for a very fun weekend!
Last night, we found out that we’re moving to the greater Seattle area in January!!! Although we seriously considered putting our overseas pick(s) as #1, when it comes down to it, this is the last time we’ll probably be able to live by family. And you can’t beat that. We’re excited to be close to Karl’s parents and Sara’s brother and sister-in-law. We’re scoping the housing market, crying silent tears at the property taxes, and trying to consider all our options. Let us know if you know anything we don’t!!! Here’s to going home!
Karl put in our top 10 choices on Friday. Since the powers that be almost always give you one of your top 5, we put the following:
1. Seattle, Washington (We don’t think anyone else put this#1–Hurrah! Karl would travel to Turkey alot. He would probably be 4 months out of every year.)
2. Menwith Hill, England (super cool job description–lots of NSA and top secret stuff–lots of other people put this too….)
3. Anchorage, Alaska (I’m putting in for a new wardrobe if we get this assignment!)
4. Germany (Again, super cool job description and location, but lots of other people put it in their top choices.)
5. Marysville, California (Northern Cali–hello Arnold!)
